Why Magnic Microlights?

Battery lights need to be charged, while conventional bottle dynamos work with mechanical contact. Magnic Microlights instead use the aluminium rim itself as part of a contactless generator system. A small air gap remains between generator and rim – there is no contact wheel rubbing on the tyre or rim.

How Contactless Energy Transfer works

A rotating magnetic wheel inside the generator induces eddy currents in the passing metal rim. The resulting electromagnetic interaction drives the generator without direct mechanical contact with the rim. Available light output increases with riding speed.

Compatibility

  • Caliper: road and touring bikes with compatible rim brakes
  • V-Brake: bicycles with V-Brake rim brakes
  • Cantilever: bicycles with compatible cantilever brakes
  • Disc Brake: flexible strap mount for suitable forks/frames without using a rim-brake shoe holder
  • Rim: an electrically conductive metal rim (aluminium) is required. Conventional full-carbon rims are not suitable.

Designed for long-term use

The generator is fully enclosed and runs on miniature ball bearings. Replaceable brake pads are separated from the generator itself. UHMWPE rim-protection stickers and mounting tools are included.

Frequently asked questions

Does the generator touch the rim?

No. When correctly adjusted, a small air gap remains between the generator and the aluminium rim.

Do I need batteries or do I have to charge the light?

No. Electrical energy is generated while riding.

Does the system work in the rain?

Yes. The light and generator are designed for wet-weather use and specified to IPX6.

Can I use Magnic Microlights with carbon rims?

Not with conventional full-carbon rims. The CET principle requires a suitable electrically conductive aluminium section of the rim.

Do Magnic Microlights create resistance?

Yes. Generating electrical power creates a contactless electromagnetic braking torque. Unlike a conventional bottle dynamo, however, there is no mechanical friction contact between the generator and tyre or rim.

Why does brightness change with speed and adjustment?

Available generator power depends on riding speed and on the air gap between generator and rim. Correct adjustment is therefore important.
