Contactless, battery-free bicycle lighting for aluminium rims. Magnic Microlights generate their operating energy without touching the rim. No batteries, spoke magnets or contact dynamo are required.

Please select mounting type, orientation and colour above. With rim brakes, the light is integrated into the brake shoe; the Disc Brake version is mounted using the included flexible strap mount.

Scope of delivery: 1 front light, 2 rim-protection stickers and mounting tools. Brake shoe and brake pad, or the Disc Brake mount, are included according to the selected version.

Current housing: reinforced clip construction for improved impact resistance.

Which Magnic Light fits my bike?

Rim brake → Microlights brake shoe · disc brake with narrow/medium fork → Microlights Disc · wide fork/suspension fork/wide tyres → Wega. For Microlights Disc, the outside fork-to-rim distance must be below 65 mm. Wega is universally adjustable for wide forks and suspension forks.

Technical specifications

Operating principle Patented Contactless Energy Transfer (CET) using eddy-current induction and magnetic coupling at an aluminium/metal rim
Power supply Generated while riding; no battery required
Generator output approx. 0.1–0.5 W, depending on speed and adjustment
Generator voltage approx. 2–5 V AC
Light source Cree high-power LED; stated lifetime more than 20,000 h
Weight approx. 32 g for generator/light unit; total weight depends on the selected mount (additional approx. 25–35 g)
Weather protection IPX6
Road approval German STVZO type approval for the front light (K 2240*00)
Standlight Front light: depending on the version, without standlight or with capacitor-powered standlight (approx. 4–10 minutes) and near-field illumination at low speed; rear light (if included): standlight approx. 4–10 minutes
Anti-theft Special screws; matching tool included

Performance depends, among other things, on speed, rim material, rim geometry and the adjusted air gap.

Why Magnic Microlights?

Battery lights need to be charged, while conventional bottle dynamos work with mechanical contact. Magnic Microlights instead use the aluminium rim itself as part of a contactless generator system. A small air gap remains between generator and rim – there is no contact wheel rubbing on the tyre or rim.

How Contactless Energy Transfer works

A rotating magnetic wheel inside the generator induces eddy currents in the passing metal rim. The resulting electromagnetic interaction drives the generator without direct mechanical contact with the rim. Available light output increases with riding speed.

Compatibility

  • Caliper: road and touring bikes with compatible rim brakes
  • V-Brake: bicycles with V-Brake rim brakes
  • Cantilever: bicycles with compatible cantilever brakes
  • Disc Brake: flexible strap mount for suitable forks/frames without using a rim-brake shoe holder
  • Rim: an electrically conductive metal rim (aluminium) is required. Conventional full-carbon rims are not suitable.

Designed for long-term use

The generator is fully enclosed and runs on miniature ball bearings. Replaceable brake pads are separated from the generator itself. UHMWPE rim-protection stickers and mounting tools are included.

Frequently asked questions

Does the generator touch the rim?

No. When correctly adjusted, a small air gap remains between the generator and the aluminium rim.

Do I need batteries or do I have to charge the light?

No. Electrical energy is generated while riding.

Does the system work in the rain?

Yes. The light and generator are designed for wet-weather use and specified to IPX6.

Can I use Magnic Microlights with carbon rims?

Not with conventional full-carbon rims. The CET principle requires a suitable electrically conductive aluminium section of the rim.

Do Magnic Microlights create resistance?

Yes. Generating electrical power creates a contactless electromagnetic braking torque. Unlike a conventional bottle dynamo, however, there is no mechanical friction contact between the generator and tyre or rim.

Why does brightness change with speed and adjustment?

Available generator power depends on riding speed and on the air gap between generator and rim. Correct adjustment is therefore important.

Die Dinger sind einfach großartig. Einmal montiert und nie mehr über Licht nachdenken müssen. Man sollte vom Frontlicht natürlich keine Wunder erwarten. Seit ca. 7000 km ohne Probleme.
